School is Not the Only Way to Build a Career in Real Estate

Many aspiring real estate agents believe the best path to success involves going to school. They believe a formal education is the best way to get their foot in the door. But, they couldn’t be more wrong. Going to school is not the fastest way to get into the real estate business. In fact, going to school could actually make things harder for you. It will take more time, and it can cost you more money in the long run. The time you spend in school could be time spent getting your real estate business up and running.

Student Debt

Why does anyone go to school? Well, the idea is to be able to provide a better life for yourself and those you care about. It’s time to rethink this idea. Going to school costs money. In fact, it costs a lot of money. To make up for this, most people go into debt. They take out huge student loans in hopes that their investment will pay off one day.

Most students learn the hard way that going to school does not mean they will be able to find work in their field. Now, they don’t have the job they wanted, and it’s time to pay back those student loans.

Student debt is the worse type of debt to be in. You cannot get rid of it with bankruptcy. If you don’t make your payments on time, they can garnish your wages. When you think of it that way, going to school seems more like a gamble than an investment.

You Can Learn On Your Own

Yes, you read the sub-headline correctly. Everything you can learn about real estate in school, you can learn on your own. You can buy your own books and study on your own time. In fact, you can even look up most of the information online. There are some websites that offer free college classes online. You can get the same information for free that would normally cost you tens of thousands of dollars.

Now, you can use all the money you would have spent on going to school to cover your cost of living. If you want to go into business for yourself, you can use that money to make your first few investments. Once you establish yourself in the real estate world, you will be set. You will not have to worry about paying back a huge mountain of student debt.
